- Current wind turbine flanges make use of bolted flanges. This design will reach its technical limit as turbine size increases.

Motivations for finding new solutions :
- Reduce the need for bolt inspections and replacements.
- Maintenance requirements for wind turbine flanges (bolt groups in L and T flanges) are one of several factors driving the move away from bolts as the main structural element in larger windmill connections.
- Large windmills may have to use T-flange connections with outside bolts:
- Exposed to corrosion
- HSE challenges under mounting and maintenance
- Enable increase of turbine capacity beyond the limitations set by current solutions.
