WLR SYSTEM FOR TERRA NOVA

SubseaDesign delivered necessary engineering and equipment to install a WLR system on Terra Nova. The equipment interfaced with an instrumentation system that enabled precise monitoring and tracking of loads applied at the wellhead for future analysis.

The seabed anchoring was placed outside the excavations resulting in line lengths of more than 100 meters. Fiber ropes were chosen, instead of the traditional steel wires, since they are appr. buoyant in seawater. Pulling the slack out and tensioning up the long fiber ropes was achieved using SubseaDesign’s Mechanical Rope Tenioners (MRT).

Fibre ropes has become a more common alternative for the tether lines the recent years also on the Norwegian shelf, mainly because SD offers fiber ropes with excellent creep-resistance and short lead times, normally within 2-3 weeks for a typical WLR system.
