SD has about 10% ownership in the EU project named “Snapper” which fall underneeth the ‘Seventh Framework Programme‘, whereas SD participate in marinisation of the product.
Snapper is an efficient and compact direct electric power take-off device for wave converters. The device works like a typical linear generator in which a set of magnets mounted in a translater is moved up and down inside multiple coils of wire of armature. However, there is a crucial difference with Snapper: alongside the armature coils is a second set of magnets of alternating polarity. These armature magnets prevent the translater magnet asembly from moving up and down smoothly in relation to the armature. The result is a series of faster movements more suited to classical electrical generation.
